23rd North South Open Championships 2014

The NI Karate-Do Wado-Kai staged yet another successful championships in Belfast on Saturday 8th February at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution (RBAI).

On the back of last years NI Karate Board Championships, staged in November 2013, Karate-Ka from across Northern Ireland were given the opportunity to compete at the next level, putting their skills and experience to the test against fellow students from the Republic of Ireland and indeed further afield from Scotland & England.

Now in its 23rd year, the NI Karate-Do Wado-Kai has been staging this competition, to aid all those in Karate to develop themselves. Referees, and students can develop their knowledge and experience, bolstering their confidence for future.

Chief Instructor for the NI Karate-Do Wado-Kai and president of the NI Karate board, the official governing body for Karate in Northern Ireland Sensei Oliver Brunton highlighted; These competitions give everyone in Karate the chance to develop, no matter what stage you are at in your Karate journey. It’s the reason we stage the competition. We have categories for all students, ranging from 6 years old to over 35, for Boys, Girls and those who consider themselves with a disability. We want everyone to join in and put themselves out of their comfort zone. We believe this is how you improve; by making yourself do things beyond what you think you can do. I wish to thank all those who competed, especially those who travelled some distance to compete, and also those who officiated to make the competition a success. It was competed in a great atmosphere of respect and fair play and we continue to develop strong links and friendships among the Karate community in these islands.”
