49th European Karate Championships

ekf-seniors-champs-2014-TampereJames Brunton was the only competitor from Northern Ireland at the 49th European Karate Championships held in Tampere, Finalnd during the week 1st to 4th May 2014.

A solid performance again from the current British Number one, yet the standard of compeitition was of the highest quality, limiting the Kumite Champion to going out in the second round.

The first draw was against Jindrich Pillmann of the Czech Republic. There are no easy bouts at this level of competition yet Brunton used his experience and technique to his advantage, to pull through with a 2 point to Nil win.
Moving through to the next round, Helio Hernandez from Portugal was an experienced competitor who had matched Brunton all the way. In the end running out a comfortable winner, with a 7 to 1 win.


The category finished on Saturday the 3rd May, with Georgio Tzanos from Greece overcoming fellow finalist Gokhan Gundez from Turkey with an impressive win.

James continues to represent his club and Northern Ireland at the highest levels of karate competition, each time bringing back this vital experience to share with other members of the NIKW association.
