NIKW Courses The NIKW runs a number of courses throughout the year, of which 4 have become annual events:
Annual Kata Course The course consists of Kata training for students of all levels and is primarily taught by Sensei Oliver Brunton (6th Dan). A grading examination is also held after the course. The purpose of the course is to ensure that every member of the NIKW receives the benefit of Sensei Bruntons instruction, and also to bring all of the members of the association together to train together. Summer Camp The summer camp is held over 4 days and covers many aspects of Karate, from Basic technique to Kata, Kihon Gumite, and the history/origins of Karate itself. The course is conducted by Sensei Brunton at the Headquarters of the NIKW at 35 College Street, Belfast. The course has become very popular with many students returning year after year to study the finer points of Karate at this unique course. The last day of the course ends with a grading examination, and so the course is used by many as preparation for their grading. This years event attracted members from the Wales Wado-Kai. Also included this year were members of the newly formed Republic of Ireland wado-kai and AIKW. Donegal The Donegal training camp is the only residential course ran by the NIKW and has been held every year since the NIKW was formed. The course is held in the Donegal village of Culdaff and is a physically intensive training course, held outdoors. Attendees stay in the family run McGrory's Hotel, and travel there on the Friday of the course, usually the last Friday in August. The course is physically intensive and is designed to build spirit as much as to develop technique, through hard training on Culdaff beach. Annual Kumite Course This course is organised to bring the members of the association together to practise Kumite. Everyone of all levels takes part and learn the techniques of competition Karate. It is conducted by the senior instructors of the association. Other Courses
